Ask anyone who's worked a restaurant shift: certain orders come in like a sigh of relief. You can tell by the way people order them — slow, happy, already anticipating the first bite.
We took an unscientific poll of our regulars and staff and came up with the five dishes that do the most emotional heavy lifting around here. Consider this your ordering cheat sheet.
1. Stacked Blue-Corn Enchiladas
Forget rolled — in New Mexico tradition, these are built flat, layer by layer, like the world's most delicious lasagna. Blue corn tortillas, a fried egg on top if you're feeling brave, and your choice of red or green sauce (or both — we call it "Christmas" and so should you).
Why it comforts: It's messy, it's cheesy, and the blue corn gives it a nutty depth that white tortillas just can't match. Order it smothered and settle in.
2. Green Chile Stew
When the first cold front rolls through, this is what flies out of the kitchen. Tender pork, potatoes, and our house green chile, simmered together until everything gets to know each other. Served with a warm flour tortilla for dipping — non-negotiable.
Why it comforts: It's a one-bowl meal that warms you from the inside out. Regulars swear by it as a hangover cure, a cold-weather cure, and a bad-Monday cure.
3. Carne Adovada Plate
Pork marinated overnight in red chile, then slow-cooked until it practically falls apart when you look at it. Served with rice, beans, and tortillas for building your own perfect bite.
Why it comforts: The red chile has a slow, smoky heat that builds gently instead of punching you. It's the dish people order when they want to feel taken care of.
4. Chile Rellenos
Whole roasted Hatch peppers, hand-dipped in a fluffy egg batter, fried golden, and smothered in sauce. Ours are made to order, which means a short wait and a very good reward.
Why it comforts: There's something about that crispy-outside, melty-inside combination that fixes whatever kind of day you're having. Add a side of our beans and you've got a full rescue mission.
5. Sopapillas with Honey
Yes, it's dessert. Yes, it's on the list anyway. These pillowy fried pastries arrive puffed and hot, drizzled with honey (or stuffed with honey butter if you know what's good for you).
Why it comforts: Tearing one open while it steams is basically therapy. Kids love them, grandparents love them, and we've seen grown adults order a second round without shame. No judgment here.
The Honorable Mentions
We'd be lying if we said the list stopped at five. Our posole, our tamales, and the breakfast burrito that regularly causes traffic in the pickup line all got votes. Consider them your backup plans.

Comfort food is personal — what feels like a hug to one person might be a plate of enchiladas, and to another it's a bowl of stew at 7 a.m. The good news is you don't have to choose. Work your way down the list, one visit at a time.
We'll keep the tortillas warm.
